Valfréjus Freeride World Tour Qualifier
The Freeride World Tour Qualifier arrives at Valfréjus
At Valfréjus, seasoned French and European riders (the competition is open only to skiers who have already scored points on the freeride circuit) will set off from the summit of Punta Bagna for a descent during which they will have to do as many jumps and tricks as possible, taking advantage of terrain movements, rocky bars, bumps... At the end of their run, a jury will award points according to the speed, control, style and tricks performed by each athlete. When all the riders have passed, the one with the highest score wins the event!
*postponed to Thursday March 21 in case of bad weather on Wednesday.
An ultra-spectacular show!
Big jumps in Punta!
The show will take place on the Punta Bagna face, but also in the air, with speedriders flying and doing aerial tricks not far from the competitors, and the Soul Flyers flying over the resort in wingsuits!
A real show in prospect for all those present at Valfréjus , who will be able to watch the runs at their leisure from the Arrondaz plateau.
Even non-skiers can watch the freeriders in action: the Arrondaz plateau is accessible to pedestrians directly from the resort thanks to the gondola.
There will also be entertainment in the high-altitude restaurants, including the Punta Bagna Bar. And after the competition, the show goes on in the resort, with concerts and parties at Rock'n Beer.
The Soul Flyers are back!
They lit up the Valfré skies in 2022 for the "20 years of Speedriding", and they're back for the Freeride World Tour Qualifier at Valfréjus ! Who are they? The Soul Flyers! Fred Fugen, a regular visitor to the resort, and his cohorts will once again be jumping out of helicopters to fly over the resort in wingsuits. Three "flights" are scheduled: at 10 a.m., just before the start of the competition, 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., just after the last run. As for the flight plan, the Soul Flyers will "attack" Punta Bagna and fly over the face where the freeride competition takes place, before deploying their parachute to land a little further on. Watching these flying men fly by at high speed just a few meters above the ground is a sight to behold at least once in a lifetime.
what is it?
To take part in the Freeride World Tour, you have to prove yourself and earn a place in the Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ).
In France, the FWQ is organized as a circuit that runs throughout the winter: the French Freeride Series. By taking part in this circuit, freeriders can earn the points they need to qualify for the "World Cup".
Several French resorts are hosting events in the French Freeride Series. Competitions are classified according to their level of difficulty: from 1 star (the easiest are open to all) to 4 stars. At Valfréjus, the technical and playful face is rated "3 stars".
