Center for Adapted Activities and Care (PASA)
The PASA, which opened in October 2013, is a community center where social and therapeutic activities are organized and offered during the day.
Description
The PASA is available to residents of nursing homes or assisted living facilities who have moderate behavioral problems. It accommodates 14 residents on weekdays, depending on their needs.
Prior to admission to the PASA, a medical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or a related illness complicated by moderate behavioral disorders that impair the safety and quality of life of the individual and other residents must be made. A prescription from the attending or coordinating physician is therefore required.
The goal of care in this unit is to make the most of the elderly person’s remaining abilities, to help them regain a certain degree of autonomy, to reduce agitation and wandering through participation in appropriate activities, to reduce the use of psychotropic medications, and to improve quality of life within the community.
The professionals involved
A gerontology care assistant works in the PASA.
